SUMMARY:IVDR in Focus: Tips for Performance Evaluation Planning to Support Your Transition from IVDD to IVDR
DESCRIPTION:While the concept of a “performance evaluation” hasn’t changed much over the past two decades\, IVDR requirements regarding the amount and extent of technical documentation have significantly changed compared to the IVDD. Annex XIII of the IVDR specifies the contents of two new documents: the performance evaluation plan (PEP) and the performance evaluation report (PER). \nTo help manufacturers prepare and comply with the IVDR\, we have compiled some tips for developing and implementing a successful PEP as you prepare for your IVDR submissions. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe the scope and objectives of the PEP\, including considerations to identify the clinical claims\, the target population\, the clinical conditions\, the comparators\, and the endpoints.\nReview how to conduct a comprehensive systematic literature review\, a critical component of the PEP which provides the basis for the clinical evidence\, both favorable and unfavorable.\nDiscuss strategies to prepare a detailed scientific validity report (SVR)\, a new requirement under the IVDR to provide a clear rationale and scientific justification for the choice of the analyte or marker\, as well as the evidence of its association with the clinical condition or physiological state.\nDefine the requirements of the analytical performance report (APR)\, another new requirement under the IVDR which seeks to demonstrate the analytical performance of the IVD in terms of its ability to correctly measure the analyte or marker.\nClarify the expectations for sufficient clinical data contained within the clinical performance report (CPR)\, a key requirement under the IVDR that demonstrates the clinical performance of the IVD in terms of its ability to correctly identify or predict the clinical condition or physiological state of the target population\n\nWho is this webinar for?\nThose Regulatory\, Quality and Clinical leaders and teams who are tasked with the development\, writing\, review or approval of performance evaluation reports for IVDR submissions. \n  \nWATCH NOW

SUMMARY:Stay Focused: The Purpose of the SVR and Tips for Building a Strong PER Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The goal of performance evaluation is to show that your IVD performs as intended and meets the acceptance criteria\, therefore establishing that your IVD may be considered state of the art. Remember: the PER is a product\, but it is documenting a process. Performance evaluation can be straightforward if your analyte has a well-established association with a clinical condition. But what is the purpose of the SVR\, and how should you approach it when there is too much or not enough data? \nThis webinar will discuss the role of data sufficiency\, the importance of developing a solid strategy to establish scientific validity\, how gaps in the SVR can significantly impact the quality of the PER\, and how proper scoping can help maximize success when it comes to a performance evaluation. \nIn this webinar\, you will learn\n1. How to clearly define what information should (and shouldn’t) be presented within the Scientific Validity Report.\n2. How the systematic literature review process supports and connects the SVR\, CPR\, and APR by leveraging published data.\n3. How to conduct gap assessments to assess IVDR readiness and develop strategies to increase efficiencies in the performance evaluation process to support the SVR. \nAt the end of the presentation\, we will dedicate 15 minutes to answering your questions. Please submit your questions beforehand if you have any to help us prepare. Also\, you can submit your questions at any point during the presentation. \nWho should register for this webinar?\n\n\nThose Regulatory\, Quality and Clinical leaders and teams who develop\, write\, review or approve performance evaluation reports for IVDR submissions.\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to watch the recording of this webinar. \nNew Requirements for In Vitro Diagnostics: Lessons Learned from the AAMI/FDA/BSI Annual Conference\nIn October 2022\, the AAMI/FDA/BSI Annual Conference discussed current knowledge and practical strategies to meet new IVDR clinical evidence requirements. Some of the biggest changes include an expanded definition of IVDs\, a new classification of IVDs\, the requirement of Unique Device Identification (UDI) on each device\, an expansion of the Quality Management System\, and the increased need for Notified Body (NB) review. \nThe transition into IVDR is already underway. IVDs marketed in the EU will continue to require a CE Marking certificate to verify that the device meets all the regulatory requirements. Failure to meet the IVDR deadlines could be very costly to manufacturers that would either lose their CE Marking or fail to obtain one. Click here to read the full blog post that outlines the deadlines for manufacturers to become compliant with IVDR 2017/746.

SUMMARY:Ask the Writers
DESCRIPTION:Ask the Writers: A Comparison of Critical Elements of the Scientific Validity Report vs. the CER State-of-the-Art and Best Practice Writing Strategies\nIn this highly interactive question-and-answer session\, Criterion Edge experts Laurie Mitchell\, President\, and Dr. Sarah Chavez\, Director of IVD and Scientific Writing Services\, will outline the must-have elements for two very similar regulatory reports: the State-of-the-Art section of an EU MDR-compliant Clinical Evaluation Report (CER) and the EU IVDR Scientific Validity Report (SVR). \nParticipants will understand the required and critical content that is common to both documents and learn best-practice writing strategies to support successful completion of these challenging projects. Come with your questions ready to get feedback from our experts! \nPlease submit your questions ahead of time while registering for this session so we have ample time to answer them thoughtfully. Also\, please be aware that answers will be limited to 3 minutes per question. \nThis forum will answer questions on a first come first serve basis\, so please submit all your questions when you register for this event. \nWho is this forum for?\nThose regulatory\, quality and clinical leaders and teams who are tasked with the development\, writing\, review\, or approval of Clinical Evaluation Reports for MDR submissions or Scientific Validity Reports for IVDR submissions. Anyone interested in learning more about the requirements for these reports is also welcome to attend. \nClick here to watch the recording of this session. \nWhy is it important to establish state of the art during the clinical evaluation?\nThe large number of mentions of state of the art throughout MEDDEV 2.7/1 rev 4 provide not only a comprehensive description of the importance\, purpose\, and role of establishing the state of the art\, but also inform on how to incorporate this analysis into the clinical evaluation. The image below summarizes several core roles of this analysis. \nEstablishing and describing state of the art is not an isolated task\, but is central to the entire clinical evaluation. Defining the current\, accepted best treatment options\, and describing the risks and benefits of these options\, provides essential information for multiple aspects of the clinical evaluation. Thus\, establishing state of the art yields information that is essential for determining if the safety and performance of a device is compatible with current standards (in comparison to available treatment options). In other words\, state of the art establishes a reference standard that is used throughout the clinical evaluation. \nIf you want to find out more about State of the Art according in MEDDEV 2.7/1 rev 4\, you can download our full whitepaper.

SUMMARY:[Ask the Expert] Common Notified Body Review Findings
DESCRIPTION:This session’s topic: Tips For How to Avoid Common Notified Body Review Findings\nCriterion Edge is often approached by clients with MDR Clinical Evaluation Reports (CERs) that require extensive revisions based upon Notified Body review and feedback.  Addressing NB feedback costs your team time and effort and may threaten critical submission deadlines. However many of these issues might have been avoidable with thorough pre-planning\, proper project scoping and asking the right questions from the beginning.  In this “Ask the Expert” question-and-answer session\, we will show you some of the most common issues our writing team encounters with clients who face these revisions and discuss how they can be avoided. Presented from the perspective of experienced medical writers\, we hope to provide examples of how solid planning during your own writing process can help you avoid the most common missteps in your own CER or PER. \nDuring this 45-minute session\, come prepared with your questions for our experts to answer regarding your notified body review findings. Please submit them ahead of time while registering so we have ample time to answer them thoughtfully. Also\, please be aware that answers will be limited to 3 minutes per question. \nThis forum will answer questions on a first come first serve basis\, so please submit all your questions when you register for this event. \nWho is this forum for?\nThose Regulatory\, Quality and Clinical leaders and teams who develop\, write\, review\, or approve clinical evaluation reports for MDR submissions or performance evaluation reports for IVDR submissions. \nClick here to watch the recording of this session. \n“Unachievable Deadlines” – The EU’s Team-NB Calls for New Guidance on Allowing Remote Audits\nNotified Bodies (NBs) across Europe along with global manufacturers are facing resource constraints. The cause? Additional requirements imposed by the new MDR/IVDR Regulations. Team-NB\, the European notified body association\, issued a position paper to express concerns about lack of resources and guidance to assist in meeting the certification deadlines. \nThe primary concern cited is the likely device shortage for patients. More complex and longer certification processes required under MDR/IVDR are influencing this shortage. In conjunction\, the demands are too great for the small number of MDR/IVDR designated Notified Bodies (NBs). With only 25 NBs for MDR and 6 for IVDR\, the demand outweighs supply. Compared with 51 NBs designated for MDD and 21 under the AIMDD/IVDD Directives\, manufacturers are in a tough situation now compared to years prior. \nTeam-NB identified the following four primary contributing factors\, summarized in our recent blog post here.

SUMMARY:[Ask the Expert] Clinical Data for IVD
DESCRIPTION:Clinical Data for IVD: What is it and How Do I Find It?\nDo you have questions about how to generate\, collect\, analyze\, or assess clinical data pertaining to your IVD? What are the best practices for conducting literature searches? How do you effectively present your data in your performance evaluation report? Whether you are just beginning your PER preparations or are already in the process of writing\, we will provide insights and suggestions to help make the process of data collection\, extraction\, and presentation more streamlined. \nThis forum answers question like these and more. Click here to watch the recording. \nWho watch this forum?\n\n\nThose Regulatory\, Quality and Clinical leaders and teams who develop\, write\, review\, or approve performance evaluation reports for IVDR submissions.\n\n\nA Practical Guide: Conducting Systematic Literature Reviews in Support of IVDR Readiness\nThe implementation of IVDR requirements has challenged IVD manufacturers to align their internal processes and systems with these rigorous regulations. Therefore\, companies realize reviewing published literature for device-specific clinical data to establish the state-of-the-art (scientific validity) is imperative. In addition\, establishing clinical performance of their products is key. However\, many manufacturers may not be familiar with or have the capability to perform rigorous\, IVDR-compliant systematic literature reviews (SLR). Finally\, screening\, selection and data extraction are typically challenges for manufacturers as well. \nIn this presentation we break down the steps of the SLR process and take a wholistic approach to conducting an IVDR-compliant SLR. Next\, using case studies\, we illustrate the effective use of SLR-derived data to develop the Scientific Validity Report (SVR) and the Clinical Performance Report (CPR). \nKey Takeaways:\n\nReview the essential steps for conducting a robust\, methodologically-sound systematic literature review\nUsing a typical case study scenario\, learn how to effectively search\, identify\, screen\, review and extract critical published clinical data on your subject IVD device to support the development of the Scientific Validity and Clinical Performance Reports.\n\nWatch this webinar recording.

SUMMARY:How to Establish the State-of-the-Art Within the Scientific Validity Report
DESCRIPTION:How to Establish the State-of-the-Art Within the Scientific Validity Report\nIn this presentation\, Criterion Edge’s Principal Medical Writer\, Dr. Sarah Chavez\, will present focused strategies on building an IVDR-aligned State-of-the-Art (SOA) section within the Scientific Validity Report (SVR). She will also talk about the critical role of the SVR as it relates to the overall performance evaluation process. In addition\, you will learn how to assess your SVR project for unanticipated roadblocks and delays. Finally\, you’ll see how indecision or incomplete supporting documents can negatively impact SOA (and therefore\, SVR) quality and timelines.  \nKey Takeaways: \n\nThe foundational role of the SOA in the SVR \nThe required components of the SOA such as the safety and performance objectives \nThe importance of a robust systematic literature review (SLR) to support your SOA \n\nWho should watch the recording?\n\n\nThose Regulatory\, Quality and Clinical leaders\, regulatory writers\, and teams who are develop\, write\, review\, or approve of Performance Evaluation Reports for EU IVDR submission. Anyone interested in learning more about IVDR requirements for PERs is encouraged to attend as well. \nClick here to watch the recording of this webinar.\n\n\n\nA Practical Guide: Conducting Systematic Literature Reviews in Support of IVDR Readiness\n\n\nWith the implementation of IVDR requirements\, IVD manufacturers have been challenged to align their internal processes and systems to comply with these rigorous regulations. Companies realize the need to review published literature for device-specific clinical data to establish the state of the art (scientific validity) and clinical performance of their products\, however many manufacturers may not be familiar with or have the capability to perform rigorous\, IVDR-compliant systematic literature reviews (SLR)\, screening\, selection and data extraction. \nIn this practical presentation\, Criterion Edge breaks down the steps of the SLR process and takes a wholistic approach to conducting an IVDR-compliant SLR. Using case studies\, the presentation illustrates the effective use of SLR-derived data to develop the Scientific Validity Report (SVR) and the Clinical Performance Report (CPR). Watch this webinar.
